How AI Is Changing the Way We Build and Use Haulistic

A boutique storefront connects a builder's code cards with a merchant's conversation and mobile store, illustrating the two ways AI supports Haulistic.

AI is changing two parts of how we think about Haulistic: how we build the platform, and how people use it.

On our side, stronger coding capabilities make it possible to develop improvements and add more functionality faster. On the merchant’s side, AI integrations make it possible to ask for changes in a conversation and have those changes carried out in their store.

Both connect to something we have cared about from the beginning: making it easier for a small business to build and run its own ecommerce store.

Where we started: keeping things simple

We started Haulistic to help brands growing on Instagram create a proper storefront and sell in a more structured way. A customer should be able to discover a product, understand it and buy it without the founder having to manually handle every step.

We deliberately offered limited customizability at the beginning. We wanted the platform to be extremely user friendly, with very little to configure. Merchants could focus on their products, prices and brand, while we made more of the decisions about how the store worked.

That approach made getting started easier. It also meant there were limits to how much a store could be adapted to a particular business.

AI now gives us more room to expand those possibilities while keeping the experience approachable. There are two sides to that change.

1. AI helps us build and improve Haulistic faster

Every new capability involves work: understanding the need, implementing it, checking how it fits into the product and refining it. For a small team, the amount of development work involved has a direct effect on what we can take on.

Recent progress in AI coding has changed what help is available. Coding agents can work with an existing codebase, make changes across several files, help investigate bugs and run checks. Research on agents working through longer development tasks shows how much the process has expanded beyond generating an isolated piece of code.

For us, that means we can use AI through more of the development process. We can explore an idea, get an initial implementation in place, review it and iterate more quickly.

That matters for work such as adding richer product information, offering more storefront flexibility, improving an everyday workflow or fixing a rough edge that makes the platform harder to use. More involved changes become more practical when AI can help with the implementation and the repeated work around it.

An illustrated idea progresses into a working storefront draft and then a reviewed desktop and mobile experience.

We still need to choose the right problems, review the work and check that changes behave properly. What is changing is how much we can build and refine with the team we have.

This gives us more room to respond to what merchants need. A feature request can become something we explore and develop sooner. A complicated customization can become more feasible. The platform can improve through smaller, more frequent updates.

2. Merchants can make changes by chatting with an AI agent

The other change is in how people interact with Haulistic.

A merchant usually knows what they want to achieve. They want to feature a collection, update a product, change the look of a page or check an order. Finding the right screen and settings is the work that sits between that intention and the result.

Haulistic supports an MCP server. In simple terms, it lets a compatible AI coding agent connect to Haulistic and work with the store through the tools we provide.

Once connected with the appropriate access, the merchant can describe what they want in ordinary language. The agent can use Haulistic’s MCP tools to read the relevant information and make supported changes. The merchant does not need to write code.

For example:

  • “Move my festive collection higher up on the homepage.”
  • “Make this product page feel more minimal and bring the fabric details closer to the product images.”
  • “Update the stock for this product to eight units.”
  • “Show me the orders containing this saree from the past week.”

The conversation can continue as the work takes shape. A merchant can look at a storefront preview and say, “Make that banner smaller on mobile,” or “Give the product images more space.” The agent can help refine the result, with website publication handled through merchant approval.

A simple boutique storefront evolves into a more individual design, with a conversation bubble representing the merchant's request.

This is already supported across areas including products, collections, inventory, orders, content and storefront editing. What the agent can do depends on the capabilities Haulistic exposes and the access the merchant grants. New platform functionality remains work for our team to build.

For the merchant, the benefit is a simpler way to get things done. They can start with the outcome they want and work through it in a conversation.

What this means for Haulistic

These two changes support each other. AI helps us add more capability to Haulistic, and our AI integrations give merchants an easier way to use that capability.

That is how we are thinking about Haulistic as an AI-native ecommerce store builder: a platform we can improve more rapidly, with an experience that lets merchants build, customize and manage their stores through conversation.

We still want someone to get started with sensible defaults and very few decisions. As their business needs more, we want the store to be able to grow with them.

Our original focus on simplicity remains. AI gives us more ways to deliver it, both in the product we build and in the way people interact with it.

If you could ask an AI agent to change one thing in your store today, what would it be?
